Trussville City Schools Community,

This is an update regarding the air quality situation in our schools related to the current landfill fire in Moody.  As previously shared, TCS has placed sensors at or near each school location. We have monitored these sensors and have taken a 3 day average of the air quality ratings. The sensor at Paine Elementary is being evaluated at this time for accuracy. However, the sensors in nearby areas confirm air continues to be acceptable. These averages fall below 100, which is in the acceptable range for air quality from www.purpleair.com Therefore, we have determined that schools may return to their normal outdoor activities at this time. 

Even though the acceptable air quality range is 1-100, there may be a risk for some people with 24 hours exposure, particularly those who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.  Students with respiratory concerns will not be required to participate in outdoor activities. We will continue to diligently monitor the air quality and make changes to outdoor activities as guided by health guidelines and sensor readings to protect the health and safety of our students and staff.
