HTHS Service Association Helps Turn Trussville Pink

Service Association members pose in front of the main stairwell under their Turn Trussville Pink sign.

Every year, Trussville "Turns Pink" for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research. Our very own Service Association (SA), sponsored by Mrs. Christy Dooley, is integral to turning HTHS Pink for this day. These young ladies and their SA Sweethearts stay after school to decorate the entire school and they always do a wonderful job.

Turn Trussville Pink began in 2006 when Hewitt-Trussville High School "turned pink" to honor three teachers undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Over the last 12 years, TTP has grown to envelop the entire City of Trussville, in the process raising money for breast cancer research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. In 2010, encouraged by the growth of Turn Trussville Pink, members of the Trussville community joined together to create the Audie and Kathy White Cancer Research Foundation (AKW) to facilitate future growth. Over the last 8 years, AKW has never paid a salary (it is all-volunteer), but it has raised tens of thousands for cancer research.

The Service Association is rich in tradition, as it has been a part of HTHS for many years. The purpose of the club is to be of service to our school, classmates, and our community; furthermore, each member will exhibit strong character and leadership skills. The Service Association takes part in many activities and service projects in our school and community. The sponsor, Mrs. Dooley is a vocal breast cancer survivor and Turn Trussville Pink is very important to her. She works with her organization to make it a very special day every year. Thanks all you do for us, SAs!
