About TCS Tech

  • The Technology Department's goal is to support the district's mission statement by providing a safe, reliable, and efficient technological environment in which all users have the tools necessary to facilitate learning, engage in learning and administer the day-to-day business of the district.  We believe that technology can be a tremendous tool for assisting teachers to make instruction effective, challenging, and engaging for each of our students and to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our operational processes.  To accomplish the tasks, we must often seek new ways to utilize existing technologies or research resources not already in place.  We strive to ensure that our technology investments are intentional and driven by curricular or operational needs.

However, technology in Trussville City Schools is not just used for instruction.  From our secure door system to our air conditioning controllers, from child nutrition to transportation, from online registration to online payment, every department in our school system uses technology in some fashion to work more effectively and efficiently.

    Access

All locations maintain a wireless and wired local area network and are connected via a one GB wide area network.  Our teachers utilize their laptops, mounted projectors, digital document cameras, sound enhancement systems daily to provide an effective education for every one of our students.  Additional resources are available for checkout from the Library and/or District Technology Department.

Students work collaboratively and individually using iPads, Chromebooks, and/or laptops to become computational thinkers, citizens of a digital culture, global collaborators, computing analysts, and innovative designers.  All students utilize Google's G Suite of digital tools to support their growth.

    Professional Development

Technology related to professional development is available in various formats from face-to-face, online, in school, after-school, summer workshops, and online communities.  Teachers received professional development from the Technology Coordinator, District Technology Integration Specialist, school-based Lead Technology Teachers, and other school/district leaders.  Many teachers attend local, state, and national conferences to further their knowledge.

    Safety and Security

We take the online safety and privacy of our students and staff very seriously.  Our Data Governance policy outlines privacy and security measures, whereas our Responsible Use of Technology Policy and Procedures governs how users interact with the district's technology resources.  All staff and students annually sign the Responsible Use of Technology during online registration and the beginning of the school year committing to online and offline responsible behavior.  All G Suite student accounts are monitored by GoGuardian and access is filtered by Palo Alto Firewall.  We ensure compliance with CIPA (Child Internet Protection Act) by requiring training of all staff and age-appropriate digital citizen lessons.
