I am Corinth Lewis and this is my fifth year as the Assistant Director of bands at HTMS.  I received my Bachelors (2011) and Masters (2014) degree  from the University of Alabama in Music Education. ROLL TIDE! While attending college I participated in the Symphonic band, Wind Ensemble, Huxford Symphony orchestra, and the Million Dollar Band, as section leader for two years. I am a a native of Birmingham Alabama and am a graduate of Ramsay High schoolWhen I’am not teaching, I’am most likely wrapped up in some diy project, spending time with my husband and son, or enjoying the great outdoors.

About the HTMS Band Program

The Hewitt-Trussville Middle School Band Program strives to have every student reach his or her individual potential in instrumental music. The band program serves more than 500 students in grades six through eight, with beginner enrollment typically around 200 students.  The beginning band is divided into six homogeneously grouped classes. Seventh and eighth grades students are enrolled into one of four levels of performing bands: Honors Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band 1 and Concert Band 2. All band classes meet every day for 48 minutes. In addition to the these bands, the HTMS Jazz Band is an auditioned group of seventh and eighth grade students and meets twice a week during a school wide 27 minute club period. A select group of eighth grade students form our HTMS Band Leadership Team and act as a service organization for our band program.

The HTMS Band program has received many awards as well as earned consistent superior ratings at the Alabama Bandmasters Music Performance Assessment. The band program is well-represented at the District IV Honor Band and Alabama All-State Band. The HTMS Honors Band has performed at several prestigious events in recent years including the 2017 Alabama Music Educators Association Conference and the 2016 University of Alabama Middle School Honor Band Festival.  HTMS Band students also enjoy success and are leaders in athletics, drama, art, choir, student council, National Junior Honor Society, Duke TIP Program, dance team, and yearbook staff, just to name a few. The directors feel it important that students be allowed to explore as many different areas of life in their middle school years to find their true passion.

  • Private lessons serve as an outstanding supplement to the daily instruction received in band. They enable the student to progress more rapidly because of individualized, one-on-one instruction. Excellent private teachers take the student to the next level. Private lessons are primarily aimed at individual development. Frequently, this is where “superstar” players develop! Students that take private lessons are often the ones who receive college scholarships in music.
